Depending on the context an event has different meanings; but, from all the dictionary descriptions, maybe the Physics description seems to be the best describer, even for the type of events that we describe here:
An occurrence that is sharply localized at a single point in space and instant of time
A ceremony is an event realized in a formal way and for a special occasion.
A concert is a musical live performance, in front of you and many others; many times by the thousands. The music may be played by a single musician, or band or group.
A convention is usually a large gathering of similar minds alike.
A festival is a prolonged event made of several smaller events all linked by a sense of community.
A Party is a gathering to celebrate any event; socializing and enjoying is a main component of a party.
In sports events, people take on activities which usually require physical and/or mental effort.
